Investigation of poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) as a novel extended release polymer for hot-melt extrusion paired with fused deposition modeling 3D printing

This study investigates the application of poly (2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PEtOx) as main matrix for development solid oral tablets with extended release profile using hot-melt extrusion (HME) coupled fused deposition modeling (FDM) three-dimensional (3D) printing techniques. Acetaminophen (APAP) was used model drug. Different grades PEtOx and polymers (ethylene oxide) (PEO) Eudragit® RL PO (ERL) were to formulate tablets. Printability evaluated by three-point bend tests, scanning electron microscopy assess surface morphology The crystalline state drug differential calorimetry. In vitro dissolution studies showed that 3D-printed exhibited desired profiles. ERL combined formulation slower than PEO formulation. infill densities molecular weights polymer both impacted rate.
